       Yoong-Han Chan , Melody Strings Violin Advisor. He first started the violin under the tutelage of his father, Chan Yong Shing.  His principal teachers have since included renowned violinists such as Beryl Kimber, Sergiu Luca, Charles Treger, David Cerone, Kurt Sassmannshaus as well as Dorothy Delay. Yoong-Han is a graduate from Rice University as well as the University of Massachussetts at Amherst. He was also a student in the University of Adelaide while he was awarded full scholarship to attend Pembroke School in Australia.

        Yoong Han has appeared as soloist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in concertos by Lalo, Berg, John Williams, Mozart, Martinu and Er Yenn Chwen. In 1999, he was featured as soloist with the Singapore Youth Orchestra in the Presidents Charity Concert as well as the Presidents Young Performers Series 2003 with the Singapore Symphony.  As soloist, Yoong Han has also appeared with the Szeged Symphony Orchestra (Hungary), the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, The Philharmonic Orchestra,  the SAF Chinese Orchestra and the Braddell Heights Symphony, Orchestra of the Music-Makers working with conductors such as Lan Shui, Erwin Acel, Matthias Bamert, Anthony Inglis, Han Zhong Jie, Lim Yau, Joshua Tan Kang Ming and Darrell Ang amongst others, in concertos by Wieniawski, Lutoslawski, Sibelius, Dvorak, Chen Gang and Zong-Jiang/He-Dong.

        As concertmaster, he has led the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Festival Orchestra (SFO), The Metropolitan Festival Orchestra (MFO), Orchestra of the Music-Makers (OMM), The Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO), the SAF Chamber Ensemble, the Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra as well as the University of Massachusetts Symphony and Chamber Orchestras.  As concertmaster of various orchestras and ensembles, he has worked closely with conductors such as Lan Shui, Lim Yau, Chan Tze Law, Joshua Tan Kang Ming, Lanfranco Marcelleti, Larry Rachleff, Stephen Cleobury, Markus Huber, Arnie Roth, Virginia Martínez, Tan Dun and Uroš Lajovic.

        As a teacher, Yoong-Han has taught in the University of Massachusetts and Amherst College.  He currently is faculty member in the Singapore Arts School (SOTA). Yoong-Han has been recipient of the Bach Prize in the Adelaide Estedffod, the Iris Colley Sonata Prize (Australia) as well as the second prize in the 1994 Corpus Christi Young Artist Competition (USA). Furthermore in America, Yoong-Han had been a recipient of the Shepherd School Society Award, the Dorothy Richard Starling Award, the Livingston Prize in Violin, the Mullen Music Scholarship, and the Hudspeth Music Scholarship.

        Yoong-Han enjoys playing chamber music on both the violin and the viola.  He has performed in the Aspen Music Festival, the Singapore Arts Festival, the Adelaide Bach Festival, The Port Fairy Spring Festival (Australia), The Singapore Encore (Brussels), the Cascade Head Music Festival (Oregon, USA), the Contemporary Music Ensemble (Amherst College), the New Music Forum, the Prism Chamber Series, the SSO Chamber Ensemble Series (in which he led the Singapore premiere of the sextet version of Schoenberg’s “Verkarte Nacht”), the Singapore Chamber Music Festival and the Encore School for Strings (Ohio, USA).  In 1998, Yoong-Han organized a series of 8 thematic violin recitals in a series called “Motifs in Murals” which was presented at the Singapore Young Musicians’ Society.  Furthermore, Yoong Han has also collaborated as chamber musician with renown artists and arts groups such as Christian Blackshaw, Cho-Liang Lin, Claude Delangle, William Bennett, Dennis Lee, Charles Treger, Yo-Yo and The Silk Road Ensemble, T’ang Quartet, Choir of King’s College (Cambridge), the Singapore Dance Theatre, Kamchàtka Theatre Company (Spain), as well as the Magnetic Band.

        Currently the Fourth Chair (1stviolins) in the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), Yoong-Han is the 2000 Shell-NAC Arts Scholar and the winner of the 2004 NAC Young Artist Award in Singapore. He is also a member in the National Piano & Violin Competition Advisory Committee as well as panelist in the Scholarship and Grant committee (Music) of the National Arts Council.  Since 2015, Yoong-Han is a member of the Governing Board in the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore. Yoong-Han has also been active in premiering, performing and recording works by local composers such as Phoon Yew Tien, Leong Yoon Pin, Er Yenn Chwen, Joyce Koh, Tan Chan Boon and Tsao Chieh.

        Besides making music, Yoong-Han enjoys sharing life with his wife Cindy, daughter Chantal and son Chandler.
